WCC MENTORSHIP PROGRAM POP-UP EVENT: CONFERENCING 101

With a new year of live and virtual conferences coming up, the WCC Mentorship Program Team wants to offer you a quick primer on how to make the most of your conference experience – just in time for the SCS 2022. So, we put together CONFERENCING 101: A Pop-up Event!

Come learn and share tips for attending and presenting at conferences. This session is for first-time presenters, people on the job market, early career scholars aspiring to publish, advisers and mentors for conference-goers, and anyone at any stage looking to enhance their conference experience. Volunteer mentors from our On-Demand Mentorship Program will facilitate breakout room discussions on the following topics:

  • Presenting at the Conference (e.g. best practices for the talk and handouts/powerpoints, making eye contact, etc.)

  • Making the Most of the Conference Experience (e.g. how to meet new people and senior scholars, email follow-up etc.)

  • Conferencing while on the Job Market (e.g. networking, attending panels, prepping for interviews, etc.)

  • Conferencing while Publishing (e.g. meeting publishers, sharing book pitch, etc.)

Attendees will be allowed to move between the rooms. In addition to these, we also plan to have a “hangout room” where current members, mentors, and mentees can meet each other and have a more informal discussion.

This event is open to members and non-members, so spread the word!

Panelists: Mary (Tolly) Boatwright, Eunice Kim, Suzanne Lye, Lindsey Mazurek, Nandini Pandey, Amy Pistone, Ruth Scodel, Cassandra Tran
