Abstracts 101

In the lead-up to the Feminism Classics IX Conference, the FemClas Program Committee and WCC Mentorship Team are collaborating to put together this ”Abstracts 101” panel event focused on writing and reviewing conference abstracts. The event is on July 7 (Mon), 3:30-5pm EDT

Abstracts 101 is for anyone who wants to learn about this unique genre of writing in the context of CFPs for conferences. The facilitators and panelists will give an overview of conference abstracts and discuss how to approach abstract writing, the elements of a successful conference abstract, and tips for those reviewing abstracts in response to a CFP.

The target audience for this event is 1) anyone who wants to work on their abstract-writing skills in preparation for submitting one to a CFP, 2) anyone who wants to become better at evaluating conference abstracts for panels or colloquia, and 3) anyone who is curious about the purpose of abstracts and how they fit into the conference process.

By the end of this session, you should have information and resources to help you write, revise, or review a conference abstract, hopefully in time to submit it for the Feminism and Classics IX Conference (CFP deadline: September 12, 2025).

FacilitatorsMelissa Funke and Suzanne Lye

Panelists: TBA

Abstracts 101 is the first in a series of pre-conference events leading up to the Feminism and Classics IX Conference in May 2026. As a follow up to this panel discussion, the FemClass and WCC teams are also co-organizing a workshop in August for people to receive  feedback on their abstract drafts. Stay tuned!
